alert4allergy is a new service for people with severe food allergies to warn of incidents which could result in them eating pre-packaged food to which they are severely allergic. By using mass electronic communication, alert4allergy aims to prevent avoidable serious or life-threatening allergic reactions and deaths. As a Social Business, it's a for-profit business with a social aim.

Management Team

Jonathan Shaw
Jonathan, whose four year-old son Jake has nut allergy, had the idea for alert4allergy.org after buying sunflower seeds at a large supermarket in December 2005. A few days later he discovered that the seeds had been recalled by the supermarket because of a risk of nut contamination. Jonathan felt there had to be a better way of warning people. Jonathan is a successful entrepreneur and creator of The Allergy Show which runs in June at London's Olympia.

Joanne Shaw
Joanne has extensive healthcare experience and is Vice-Chairman of NHS Direct and Chairman of Ask About Medicines as well as Chairman of Datapharm Communications and a Trustee of the Long-term Medical Conditions Alliance. Previously Joanne was Director of The Medicines Partnership a Director The Audit Commission.

Ruth Towell
Ruth is the Chair of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) - Food Allergy and Intolerance Specialist Group (FAISG) and a registered dietitian. Her specialist dietetic interests are adult critical care and paediatric allergy. She is currently the Senior Research Dietitian for the LEAP Study (Learning Early About Peanut allergies), which is investigating the most effective way to prevent peanut allergy.
